When your child is first diagnosed with HD you have a number of questions that you want answered, firstly and most importantly at the time is "What is Hirschsprung's?". It is a disease that very few have heard of and even less understand or want to understand. It is not one of the 'glamorous' disease, it is associated with the nasty and smelly parts of the bowel but it is associated with one of the most vital parts of the body. The bowel is sometimes referred to as the second brain.

This pamphlet is intended as an introduction to Hirschsprung's. It tries to explain briefly what Hirschsprung's is, what to look out for, what to expect in the future and how things will turn out. It will try to answer some of your question but does not try to answer all of them.
